Robert Carl Taylor 12/31/59-5/21/22
Robert entered this life on December 31, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, to RC and Frances Taylor (Hoxie) and he passed onto to his next life on May 21, 2022, in Palm Springs, California. He was surrounded by family members while he was passing, and his older sister Debra was with him in his final moments.
His mother went into labor while attending a New Year’s Eve party and ended up giving birth to her 3rd child and her firstborn son late that night on the last day of 1959. Robert ended up with several younger siblings as time went on, and he grew up running around on the rough streets of Detroit, specifically Hamtramck. School was not his favorite place, and he was known to frequently skip school and was learning life’s hard knocks out on the streets. He learned the skill of mechanics when he was young and this skill served him throughout his time here on earth.
Robert married young in 1983 and moved to Northern California, ending up in the tiny town of Mad River. Gregory, Jennifer, and Nicole were the children from this marriage, which ended after a few years. Robert then found his home in Southern California in the Palm Desert/Coachella Valley for the remainder of his life. He visited back home in Detroit a few times, and came up to Northern California, too, but spent most of his time in the Palm Desert.
Robert was a talented mechanic who was always being offered jobs. Robert mostly put his energy into helping people in the desert, however, who were broke down and needing immediate assistance, and that is how he supported himself for most of his years. While living in the Palm Desert, he met “Mary”, and his relationship with Mary was special. She and him remained friends and cared about each other very much. Mary had to move back to Canada, but not before she shared many wonderful memories with Robert and also had become pregnant with his daughter, Luyanna. He was not able to meet Luyanna in person before his passing, but he loved her dearly and wanted the best for her.
Robert was known for his mechanic abilities, his love for drag races and fast cars, and his love of his own personal freedom. He had a traumatic childhood and a somewhat nomadic adulthood, being just out of reach of his family for years and years. During the last few years of his life, he was able to reach out and reconnect with his daughters who he was extremely proud of, and reconnected with his family in Detroit, who worried about him constantly. He was able to meet all 7 of his grandchildren months before his passing, and earned the name “Grampy” aka “Grumpy” from several of his grandsons. His personality and sense of humor was priceless and he was a firm believer in God and Jesus Christ, even though his life was very rough and full of challenges.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his brother William, his sister Valerie, and Gregory. He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Boak, Nicole Faulknor (Travis), Luyanna, and his sisters Debra Gubin (Leo), Peggy Taylor, Cathy Haynes (Bruce), and his brother RC Taylor, Jr. (Lisa), along with 18 nieces and nephews, and his 7 grandchildren; Amelia, Elizabeth, Dylan, Ali, Addison, Jenison, and Nolan. Grampy Robert was very loved and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He was a unique soul and an unforgettable person. We are very much looking forward to seeing him again in the afterlife where there is no pain and sorrow and life is eternal.
Never give up hope, forgive always, and leave the door open for your loved ones. Life is short and regrets are long. Robert was very loved and very missed and we are grateful for the time we were able to spend with him. Look people in the eyes, notice them. Those people on the streets who look lost and alone, are someone’s someone and they are just as important as anyone else. Don’t forget that and in memory of Robert Taylor, spread kindness and love, like Jesus showed us how. RIP Dad. I love you.
