Redmond Vincent Phelan Jr., affectionately known as Red, was born on January 6, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on February 4, 2025, in Clinton Township, Michigan.
Red’s commitment to his country was evident through his military service, where he dedicated four years to the U.S. Coast Guard and an additional two years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Nimitz. This experience not only shaped his character but instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his life.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Red found joy in his work as a truck driver, a profession that allowed him to explore the open roads and share stories with those he encountered along the way. His early childhood was characterized by adventure and learning; he proudly served as a boy scout and developed a deep appreciation for nature, which labeled him a Naturalist.
Red was also a devoted member of the church and actively involved with the American Lutheran Church (ALC), where he contributed his time and talents to the community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan White, and his brother, Robert Phelan. Red was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Phelan, and his sister, Sheri. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A caring cremation was entrusted to Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, 28605 Gratiot Ave. Roseville, Michigan 48066.
