Leonard Martin age 93 passed away on May 4, 2017 at his home in Sterling Heights. He was pre-deceased by his wife Vivian and sons, Floyd and Robert, and one great-grandchild. He is survived by 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Leonard liked bowling, hunting, fishing and loved the outdoors. He volunteered at Medi Lodge assisted living in Sterling Heights and was also an active member of VFW Post, #6756 CPL Richard W. Menge Post in Centerline for many years.
Leonard was in the Army and was deployed to the battle of Normandy as D- Day Plus 1. D-Day Plus 1 was military shorthand for the date one landed in Normandy. After the first wave of troops came ashore, thousands and thousands more followed the next day. He also participated in 4 more military campaign’s and received many honors for his service. He will be missed by his bowling buddies, friends and family who knew and loved him. A Memorial service will be held at De Carlo’s Banquet and Convention Center in Warren at a later date.
