Joann Tencza

June 14, 1939 — January 17, 2017

JoAnn V. Tencza passed peacefully in her Roseville home of 56 years. A celebration of her magnificent life will occur at St Pio Church, 18720 Thirteen Mile Rd, Roseville (formally St Athanasius) on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10 am followed by Mass at 10.30. Although, knowing JoAnn, she might be late for her own funeral.

JoAnn’s heart was one of kindness. It was the exceedingly rare type that could connect with anyone from anywhere - the kind that would look through all the flaws and highlight that one small sliver of sunshine. She could find humor in the most taboo circumstances often remarking, “I have more friends in the ground than above!” or “sometimes I just have to pass gas, I can’t help it.”

Throughout her far too short 77 years, JoAnn touched innumerable souls on her journey. And consistently strived to make their lives better – to offer advice, a shoulder to cry on, or a witty retort sure to bring a smile to the most stoic of faces. JoAnn was an active member of her Church where she would share her strong faith with her fellow parishioners. As a volunteer at the Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST), JoAnn believed good began in the simplest of actions, whether they be a smile or a helping hand. Most importantly, JoAnn was truly dedicated to her daughter and grandchildren. The last half of her life was happily spent laughing, playing card games, swimming in the pool, and, to the detriment of everyone’s teeth, chewing entire bags of double-bubble bubble gum. Her passion was connecting with people and always giving back more than she received. And in this task, she not only succeeded but surpassed every mortal expectation.

She is survived by the hundreds of souls she has touched on her journey. And is eternally loved by her brother, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, and niece. We will see you at the rainbow’s end, Nana. Until we meet again…

In lieu of flowers, we request a donation be made in her name to MCREST http://www.mcrest.org/
