Gregory Harris was born on August 11, 1966 in Detroit, MI and passed away on March 17, 2020 in Detroit. Greg was a husband, father, stepfather, and pet father. He will be forever missed by Janice Harris, Julia Harris, Nathaniel Thomas, Melissa Thomas, Ian Thomas and Sadie, Emily and Bernie.
Greg attended Detroit-area local schools and graduated from Oak Park High School. He attended North Dakota State University where he obtained dual degrees in political science and journalism. Greg thoroughly enjoyed his college years and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Greg continued to be a huge fan of NDSU sports and delighted in their success on the football field.
Greg’s career was a colorful, varied one – he was a journalist and worked reporting the news in many small papers throughout the country including newspapers in North Dakota, South Dakota, Florida and California. He loved reporting the news and was a politics junkie. Greg’s later career included magazine writing, public relations, and as a web editor. At the time of his passing, Greg was a web content editor at Art Van Furniture.
Greg loved his daughter Julia immensely. He was proud of her every accomplishment. He was a stay-at-home dad with her for her first year of life, an experience that changed his life. Greg spent hour upon hour playing Barbies, Calico Critters, and watching Peppa Pig. Greg loved his family, his pets, and all the Detroit sports teams. He was an avid soccer fan, getting up early on Saturday morning to watch English Premier League soccer. Greg loved good ice cream, barbecue, and cheesecake. Greg was a quiet, sweet man. He was smart and funny – his family will forever miss his quick wit.
Sadly, at 37 years of age, Greg was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which would ultimately contribute too his passing.
Contributions in his memory can be made to the National MS Society, the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, or the Children’s Law Center in Los Angeles.
