Gowan Brooks

Gowan "Big G" Brooks, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday February 28, 2015. Gowan was born September 20, 1945 in Madison County, Alabama and resided in the Detroit area for most of his life. A professional, tractor-trailer truck driver and enthusiast, he enjoyed listening to gospel music and spending time with his family. Gowan was a one-of-a-kind person who will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Charlotte Jean Brooks; his son John Thomas and wife Naomi of Michigan; two daughters, Christina Jean Averette of North Carolina, and LeeAnn Cruz and husband Keither, of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Thomas Hutchinson, Rachael Brooks, Edwin Averette III (Bean), Gina Marie DeWald and Zachary Brooks; and two great-grandchildren: Gunnar and Ona Hutchinson.

A private family memorial will be held following arrangements by Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, 28605 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville, Michigan 48066.
