Frank Vincent Costanzo

February 8, 1960 — July 12, 2023

Frank Vincent Costanzo, 63, passed away on July 12, 2023, at the Detroit Henry Ford Hospital due to an ongoing illness. He leaves behind his kids Ian and Jenna, his wife Aulenir Elis, his brothers Andy, Jim, and Dan, and many loving friends and family members. His parents, Frank A. and Joan M., preceded him in death.

Frank was born February 8, 1960, in Providence, Rhode Island, and grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Roger Williams University (Bristol, RI) and a Master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth (Dartmouth, MA). He was a longtime resident of Massachusetts before moving to Clinton Township, Michigan, for work. Frank, a systems engineer by vocation, was working at DCS as a Branch Manager, overseeing the design of autonomous vehicle systems. Frank mentored many engineers throughout his career, sharing technical knowledge and fostering attention to detail and logical thinking. He was passionate about his work and engineering and worked hard to be ethical and develop quality products.

Frank's desire to build and fix things didn't end when he punched the clock at work. A skilled woodworker and handyman, he often preferred to take on significant projects himself. Building and renovating several houses, he would work on everything from framing to finishing. If there were a problem, he would fix it, be it electrical, plumbing, or structural. He liked to take care of houses and make them safe and comfortable places to live.

While he enjoyed caring for a home, Frank loved traveling and adventure. He enjoyed seeing the world and meeting new people. Walking through cities, exploring their nooks and side streets, was a favored past-time of his. Road trips on his motorcycle were a common weekend activity. He hiked and skied all over New England, with several trips to the Rockies in Colorado and Wyoming! Frank regularly sailed solo to the islands off the Massachusetts and Rhode Island coasts while living in New England. When time allowed, and there wasn't something to fix, Frank often chose to be on the open road or on the ocean.

Frank was passionate about art and especially music. He loved visiting museums and galleries and attending rock concerts and jazz festivals. A talented musician, Frank was constantly coming up with new pieces to play on his guitar, his notebooks filled with tabs and chords of some new musical idea in his head. Whether rocking out in a mosh pit in Rotterdam or quietly figuring out a new piece in his living room, Frank lived for music.

Food and family were important to Frank. Some of his happiest moments were sharing a meal with his family and friends. Spending time with his family and friends was essential to him, and if the gathering involved a grill, he wanted to be in charge!

Frank was a distinguished engineer, a talented musician, a skilled cook, a clever handyman, and an experienced traveler. He made friends quickly and aimed to treat everyone respectfully and kindly. Frank cared for the planet and his fellow humans. He was a fantastic dad and a loving husband. We will miss him.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
