Doug was raised in Roseville, Michigan and graduated from Roseville High School in 1968. He was drafted into The United States Army in 1969 and returned home in 1971. He married in 1974 and bought a Pepperidge Farm Bread franchise in 1976 that he ran until selling it in 2016. He bought his family home in 1977 and welcomed his first of three children in 1980.
Doug loved playing the guitar, boating, watching football, rebuilding engines, and was known as a jack of all trades and liked to work with his hands. He took pride in the home that he built and never stopped working on improving it. He loved his family and he will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
An interment ceremony will be held at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. A casting ceremony will also be held with immediate family on Lake Saint Clair upon a future date.
It was Doug's wish, that on the night of his passing, his family share a toast to him, in order to celebrate his life on this earth as well as the beginning of his new journey. And it is the wishes of his family, for those who knew him, to find a quiet moment and raise a glass for the man they all knew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Doug's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or support and acknowledgements may be sent directly to Doug's wife, Colleen Gross.
A caring cremation was entrusted to Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, Roseville, Michigan. Please share memories with the family at their "On-Line Tribute Wall" at skupnyfuneralhome.com
